Neurological Relaxation

Neurological ‘Fine Tuning’

The limbic system of the brain is considered the ‘home’ of our emotions. At the base of the brain is the brainstem: a site which sits atop of the spinal cord. Nerve cells control the activity of nerve pathways that run up into the brain and that course down into the spinal cord.

Brain wave recordings (EEG) can be measured by the activity of nerve cells in both of these areas. Electrical activity pattern in the brain known as alpha state can also be measured. Such alpha rhythms are accompanied by feelings of calmness, relaxation and increased mental focus.

The neurological mechanisms that are occurring during the alpha state appear to:

How can it help you?

By changing certain nerve cells activity neurological relaxation appears to amplify activity in some neurological systems, and diminish activity in others.

This neurological ‘fine tuning’ is called modulation. Effects of modulation can be produced after a single use; repeated use has shown to increase the relative strength and duration of these effects.

‘re-tune back to normal function’

Beneficial changesin brain activityafter a single 20 minute therapy-session show a decrease in delta frequency (slow brain waves) with an increasein alpha (relaxation waves).
